UPRR Fresno Subdivision 55.71 Bridge Replacement

Hamilton replaced a timber and steel deck plate girder bridge over the Cosumnes River within four individual, consecutive 18-hour periods. The new bridge includes five steel beam spans up to 75-feet-long and weighing 160,000 lbs; installation of 2,500 lineal feet permanent H-pile; and installation of 10 precast box girder spans. Work required building a 6-span workbridge across the river to facilitate drilled shafts on both sides of the existing structure. As the change-out time was approaching, Hamilton presented the owner with a staging strategy that reduced the number of change-outs from five to four. The Hamilton strategy ensured successful completion of the schedule.
