Apprenticeship ProgramsOne way to start your career in the heavy civil construction industry is to enter an accredited apprenticeship program and get on-the-job training as a skilled tradesperson (carpenter, laborer, welder, and so on) while you earn a salary.
There are specific apprenticeship programs for each trade. After becoming an apprentice, career advancement includes opportunities for project management (superintendent and project management positions).
