Fort Wainwright 422 Repair Bailey Bridge
Design-Build
Hamilton was a subcontractor on this design-build project, responsible for all material, labor, and equipment to construct a 3-span deck Bulb-T bridge over the Chena River on Army base Fort Wainwright. Hamilton collaborated with the designer to develop the design of the bridge and implemented a unique pile driving method to eliminate temporary access impacts. Using the design-build delivery method, Hamilton worked closely with the designer and project team members throughout the project to overcome pile foundation issues and employ non-traditional methods to obtain pile capacity through innovation and perseverance.
Using a 650-ton crawler crane on one side of the river, Hamilton was able to reach across the river, over 100-feet, and drive all 36-inch diameter pier pile approximately 140-feet into the ground. This eliminated the need to build a temporary workbridge and accelerated the schedule. The same crawler crane was used to erect the center span of the new bridge and eliminate temporary impacts to the river. |
